Less Chocolate, Quit Smoking, Fire My Boss, Find a Boyfriend

Haven’t we all done it? Days, or perhaps weeks before the start of each New Year, single women and men carefully draft their New Year’s resolutions: Lose weight, find a new job, commit to more “me” time or even find a boyfriend/girlfriend. So, which resolution remains the most popular?

The results of a new poll conducted by Perfectmatch.com® (Perfectmatch), a leading online dating and relationship service, indicates more than 64% of single adults between the ages of 30-59 agreed finding love and romance remains the number one “in with the new” resolution. This is followed by “out with the old” resolutions, which included getting fit, kicking bad habits and unhealthy behavior.

“The results of the poll aren’t surprising when you stop to think about it,” states leading relationship expert Dr. Pepper Schwartz. “There are many great things about the start of a New Year, including the fact it’s an invitation, in essence, to creating a new outlook on life. We all know some New Year’s resolutions can be difficult to fulfill. But, resolving to find love? This remains a most worthy and inspirational pursuit, especially considering the end result.”

“The New Year presents an excellent opportunity to set personal goals, which also includes a rededication for single adults to find love,” said Duane Dahl, CEO and Founder of Perfectmatch. “Besides getting a fresh start with the New Year, don’t forget….Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.”

Rounding out the list were getting fit / improved health garnering 30% of the vote; followed by exploring new career opportunities at 5%; and finishing last with only 1% of the vote was ending bad habits like smoking and poor eating habits.

In an effort to provide full disclosure, Dahl also noted, “We couldn’t actually find anyone who was resolving to eating less chocolate in 2008. However, we needed a clever headline, so we went with it nonetheless.”
